HOBBITON VILLAGE

A fantastical world of wonder awaits at the filming site of Hobbiton Shire. Nestled within the verdant farmland south of Auckland, this authentic recreation of Bilbo Baggins’ Middle Earth village immerses you in all the magic and adventure of the Lord of the Rings.

Ride over the rolling Bombay Hills, through the sprawling Waikato region and past the heritage town of Cambridge, travelling not just south from Auckland but deep into the pages of J.R.R. Tolkien’s beloved Lord of the Rings trilogy. As you enter the 12-acre (5 ha) farm that was transformed into Hobbiton for the filming of Peter Jackson’s blockbuster trilogy, the undulating, emerald landscape begins to reveal its secrets. More than 40 hobbit homes are tucked beneath burrow-like bumps in the grassy plain, including Bilbo Baggins’ round-doored abode – Bag End.
